Today we paraphrase a saying made famous by one of history’s great economists, George H. W. Bush. Well OK, maybe he wasn’t an economist in the traditional sense. And he didn’t originate the phrase either. So maybe we’re reaching a bit. (At least we didn’t go for “read my hips”…) The saying was meant to focus attention on one specific thing, and distract attention from whatever the recipient was on about. In the case of gold it’s true – gold prices are more about actual supply and demand than they are about what the politicians want it to be.
